National Sons of American Legion
Welcome to the home
of Squadron 88 of the
Sons of the American
Legion
The Sons of the American Legion was created in 1932
as an organization within the American Legion.  The
SAL is made up of boys and men of all ages whose
parents or grandparents served in the United States
Military and became eligible for membership in the
American Legion.
Squadron #88 was given its current Charter by the
National Adjutant at Headquarters in Indianapolis,
Indiana on October 27, 1976 and countersigned by the
Commander and Adjutant for the Detachment of
Illinois at Bloomington, Illinois on November 6, 1976.
There were 21 Charter members.  At one point the
active Charter members were given a Life
Membership.  Life memberships are also given to any
member becoming the Squadron Commander.
Squadron #88 has more than once come from an
inactive status to at one time the largest number of
members in the State.  They were instrumental in
starting the Saturday night Bingo in Mattoon.
Currently, a very active Squadron of 308 members,
they are always available to help in any possible way.
